My New Easter Drip - Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize!!!

Updated: Apr 13, 2022

There was once upon a time when I looked forward to Easter Sunday simply because it meant I could wear my brand new clothes. Sheepishly, I tell you that I only recently found out that the tradition of wearing new clothes for Easter dates back to medieval times where Christians celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new lives bound for its newest Christians. Honestly, in my twenties, I thought the whole bit was a conspiracy thought up by the commercial retail industry, the same that sells chocolates and jewelry on Valentine's Day, to get even the poorest of people to spend their mortgage money to be sure their babies had something nice to wear to church on the holiest Sundays of the year. And I certainly used to think that God didn't care what you wore on Sundays or any other day for that matter.

But I was wrong. Very wrong. God does care what we wear. In fact, He tells us just how we should dress everyday right down to the loin girt (belt)! In Ephesians 6:11 - 18, the bible tells us to, "put on the whole armor of God," so that we might stand against our enemies (the darkness in the world and the wickedness in high places). Just as a soldier in the army, God has provided his troops with a belt of truth, a breastplate of righteousness and His peace for sandals. But the mighty outfit is not complete without adornments of course. Our father has also given us a "shied of faith", a "helmet of salvation" and lastly the "sword of the spirit." Accessorize! Accessorize! Accessorize!!

When it comes down to it, our Lord understands that because we are sent out like sheep amongst wolves, He has given us just what we need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Math 10:16). So to think that God doesn't care about what you wear, it's simply just not true. The phase "come as you are" is not even in the bible :) While it is true that God does want you to come to Him not concerned with what you have, what you've done or who you are, in this sense clothes really do make the man (or woman, of course). Because when it comes to your spiritual clothes, truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and His holy spirit, they mean the difference between life or death - our lives for His death. And my God is so fly, He rose again.

So, while you are deciding what you will wear for this coming Sunday, remember that Ephesians 6:11 - 18 has what's trending!
